Government Official States MoD Examining Security Risk from Vehicles from China, as Staff Instructed to Avoid Secret Talk in Vehicles.

An defense official has confirmed that the MoD is currently investigating the potential threats posed by Chinese-made vehicles, and personnel have been instructed to refrain from discussing secret information in all vehicles.

Safety Advice for Defence Staff

In a recently aired interview on LBC, Luke Pollard addressed reports that Ministry of Defence staff have been instructed not to discuss classified information while travelling in China-made vehicles.

He explained that the MoD is “investigating” Chinese vehicles within its fleets, but emphasised that safety is a issue in all contemporary vehicles.

We have a collection of tens of thousands of cars in the MoD and Chinese ones represent a very small number.
But whether you’re traveling in a Chinese car or a car from another country, what we’ve asked our staff is to avoid connecting Ministry of Defence devices into their vehicle, not to have discussions at a secret level in any vehicle, because of the increasing threats of eavesdropping that exist in every single automobile, to only have those confidential conversations in protected areas. That’s a wise and reasonable thing for everyone worried about security.

After it was put to him that it would be prudent for the ministry to cease using every cars from China, Pollard replied: That is precisely what we’re investigating at the present time.”

Broader Defence Background

This revelation follows reports from Norway and Denmark have alerted the United Kingdom to the presence of multi-purpose shutdown mechanisms in Chinese buses, which could enable China to disable buses and bring disruption to public transit.

Additionally, a Russian spy ship was reportedly shining laser beams at RAF pilots, labeled a “highly dangerous” act by government representatives.

The broader defence environment underscores the significance of robust measures and vigilance in all areas of official operations, including transport usage to discussions habits.
