Together Is Now Streaming, and It Could Strengthen or Shatter Your Relationship.

We present a challenge for partners in committed relationships who enjoy the horror genre: Get comfortable with your significant other and view Together. This critically acclaimed 2025 movie recently had its online premiere on Hulu. On the surface, it might appear like conventional physical horror, but beneath Together exists a profound contemplation about the ways we decide to love each other.

A Debut Feature Investigating Relationship Dynamics

Together marks the introductory feature for filmmaker Michael Shanks. It features the real-life married couple Dave Franco and Alison Brie as Tim and Millie, partners that have remained a couple for over ten years. United in marriage in actuality in 2017, Franco and Brie infuse a particular energy to their portrayals, expertly portraying both the good and bad of a enduring union.

The plot begins when the couple move from the big city to the countryside for Millie’s job. A familiar story element, admittedly, but that’s mostly where the cliches end. Together transforms into as much a psychological exploration of the partnership as it is a movie featuring biological frights.

A Paranormal Spark

While walking near their rural residence, a storm hits, and Millie and Tim tumble into an hole in the earth. After being trapped overnight there and managing to escape, a strange force takes hold of the pair. This force compels a supernatural closeness between them that goes far beyond typical partnership.

The entire film is a gradually intensifying fright fest, interspersing elements of dreamlike terrors, gross (but tastefully done) biological grotesqueries, and authentically humorous dialogue (sometimes during something horrific). The director skillfully blends these components expertly and presents them in a consistently growing aura of dread.

Complex Characterizations

A significant portion of Together is only Brie and Franco, and they deftly portray countless layers to the partnership at the film's core. Millie's sense of self and emotional bond is suffering due to a lack of intimacy. Her subconscious resentment of Tim for his hesitance to chase only his struggling artistic pursuits slowly bubbles to the surface.

Tim, on the other hand senses confinement and cut off by Millie, who’s the impetus they’ve left the city and distant from his support system. He dreads the idea of completely losing his sense of self in another person. This fear is further exacerbated by the fact he can’t drive and needs Millie for mobility.

The director's cleverest decision in Together refrains from painting Tim or Millie the clear bad guy.

Both characters grapple with the sort of issues that arise in long-term unions after ten years. Deep down, they continue to care for one another. They still laugh together, provide solace, and are vulnerable at times. But beneath it all, there’s an unavoidable current of uncertainty about their bond.

Thematic Depth

While the supernatural forces in Together represent these concerns of unhealthy attachment and totally devoting oneself to a partner, the symbolism avoids being hamfisted or heavy-handed. Instead, these visceral horror elements provide a perfect parallel to the character-driven drama. Both the horror and the drama serve the other in a mutually beneficial way.

A Debated Finale

Together’s conclusion, which won’t be spoiled here, has created disagreement on the story's concluding statement about unhealthy partnerships. Reports indicate that those not in relationships have seen the movie as a powerful case for avoiding commitment. Conversely, some couples having disagreements found that the film actually helped them make up.

If you are alone or with a partner, your own interpretation could potentially serve as a telling indicator of how you think about commitment. Will the ending inspire anxiety and horror, or a heartwarming sense of hope? Will you identify in Tim or Millie and feel frustration, or simply glance toward your significant other and utter, “I’d do that for you”?

No matter your reaction, Together is an test you can embark on at this very moment.

Together is streaming on Hulu's platform at present.
